Skatebolt S2 Tornado Electric Longboard
Up first on our review includes Skatebolt S2 Tornado. Not the priciest longboard on our list, the S2 Tornado has a couple of unique features to boast nonetheless.
One of them is its regenerative braking system which charges the longboard when you are breaking. Thanks to it, you could extend the 18.6-mile max range of this longboard quite a bit.
Remarkably, Skatebolt has equipped the S2 Tornado longboard with a pair of taillights. Working just in cars, the taillights are there to alert vehicle drivers that you are on the road.
The 500W dual motor of the S2 Tornado is also notable. Thanks to it, this longboard can reach speeds up to 25 mph. This speed is available on the sport mode, but those who want a more restrained ride have the option of selecting the normal mode with its 13.75 mph max speed. We’d like to see more speed modes for the price, to be fair, but 2 is decent as well.
Backfire Galaxy G2s – Best Motorized Longboard
The Backfire Galaxy G2s longboard may not have stuff like regenerative brakes or taillights, but what it does offer is top performance. It costs quite some money, but we think it is worth it.
Before moving forward, it should be noted that the Galaxy G2s we based our review on is sold by Freelance Shop Sport. So, don’t get confused when you see their name.
Coming back to the features of this longboard, let’s start with its durable build. Backfire boasts a flexible yet strong 8-layer deck that absorbs shock and provides you with good foot support. Plus, the Galaxy G2s is equipped with the durable Caliber II truck system.
What Backfire also boasts is the low-profile design of the board that keeps you closer to the ground to ensure increased stability. This is partly thanks to the small 80mm wheels that this longboard comes with.
In addition, according to Backfire’s official website, there also are 96mm wheels included with this longboard, which are going to be more suitable for rocky, uneven roads.
Among other notable things in this longboard are its two 300W motors, the max speed of 23.5 mph, the ability to climb 25% hills, as well as the weight of just 14.5 pounds.
ANZO 600W2 Electric Longboard
The Anzo electric longboard seems to offer great driving comfort. For instance, it comes with an anti-slip grip panel installed on its 8-ply Canadian maple wood deck. Anzo also boasts that it comes with high-speed silent bearings, which is kind of expectable for the price.

The BLITZART Huracane GT 38″ has a very high maximum speed of 23MPH and can cover a great distance of 11 miles when charged to maximum.

What is an electric longboard?
Before moving on to the key features to look, let’s understand what an electric longboard even is.
An electric longboard, as its name suggests, is a kind of a longboard that uses an electric motor for propulsion. In its turn, a longboard basically is a long skateboard that is more suitable for cruising and long-distance traveling.
An electric skateboard/longboard requires virtually no muscle input from the rider for propulsion. It comes with wireless remotes which are used to adjust the speed of the longboard, as well as brake and reverse. No kicking motions are thus required to keep the longboard in motion.
On the other hand, electric skateboards do require user input for maneuvering. In addition, you would need some balancing skills in order to ride a longboard. Still, an electric longboard is more convenient than their non-electric counterparts, which makes them great for long-distance cruising.
Electric boards definitely aren’t suitable for freestyling since they are too heavy for that. Those looking to do tricks should look for shorter skateboards instead of longboards.
You could also technically ride an electric longboard like a regular longboard by propelling it with your leg. However, since those are much heavier than non-electric ones, kick-riding them isn’t really an option. It would be feasible only if you are stranded somewhere with no battery charge left.
Deciding factors in electric boards
Now that we understand what electric longboard is, let’s overview the features that matter in them the most. Skateboards, in general, have many important features in them, but below, we will focus on those that make an electric longboard more suitable for cruising.
The speed is perhaps the most important thing to look for in an electric longboard. Even if you don’t plan to set speed records, you probably wouldn’t want to get a longboard that is slow as a snail. Especially if you will be covering long distances.
But keep in mind that you will need to have some skill to control a fast longboard. If you are a beginner or don’t have too much experience, it would probably be more reasonable for you to go for a slower longboard.
Aside from speed, pay attention to what kind of riding modes the desired electric longboard has. You would want to have a couple of speed settings to allow you to vary your pace, plus a reverse speed so you don’t have to reverse on your own.
Cheaper electric boards may have fewer speeds and lack a reverse speed. And if you don’t have the budget, it’s perfectly fine to go for a longboard that has fewer riding modes. They do add a lot of convenience to the riding though.
It would also be great if your electric longboard had some kind of a braking system. This may not be as necessary on flat terrain, but if you will be often going downhill, you will need to have brakes to ensure a safe ride.
You might also want to get a longboard with regenerative brakes. These brakes basically convert the kinetic energy of the board into a form that can be used later. Most often, the collected energy is used to recharge the battery. In hybrid sports cars, such brakes are used to effectively power their electric motors.
In electric longboards, a regenerative brake may not make as much difference as in a sports car due to its slower speed & mass and thus lower kinetic energy. However, regenerative brakes can indeed help you squeeze a little more runtime out from the longboard’s battery.
The operational range is basically synonymous with battery life. Manufacturers indicate their longboards’ operational range in miles, usually at some specific speed, e.g. “25 miles at 15mph.” In fact, electric boards typically run the longest when on a moderate speed, which is a thing to keep in mind if you care about energy-efficiency.
Needless to say, choose the electric longboard whose operational range satisfies your requirements.
The maximum incline that an electric longboard can climb is also a very important thing to consider. Unless the area you will be traversing is mostly flat, you should get a longboard that has more or less good uphill climbing capacity.
The higher the wattage, the more powerful the longboard motor is going to be. Thus, motor wattage significantly impacts a longboard’s maximum speed and its ability to go uphill. Motor wattage usually goes from around 150 to 700.
Aside from that, motor wattage is important in regard to the weight of the rider. At a given wattage, the heavier the rider, the more difficult it will be for an electric longboard to go uphill and reach its max speed.
What this means is that if you are a heavier individual who wants to skate around fast, you need to go for a longboard that has a high motor wattage. But at the same time, in pursuit of high wattage, you shouldn’t forget about the rest of the features we described.
Electric longboard – like any other longboard or skateboard – have a max weight capacity for which they have been tested. We strongly advise that you go for a longboard which has enough weight capacity for you.
Weight capacity of 200 pounds doesn’t mean that a longboard won’t withstand 220 pounds. However, by exceeding the longboard’s weight capacity, you are risking to shorten its life significantly.
Size is also very important in longboards. Most importantly, you should pay attention to the width of the board – it needs to be wide enough to allow you to comfortably stand on it.
Length is arguably less important in longboards. If you don’t really need a long longboard, the additional length will just make a longboard heavier. But if you find that you need increased room for your feet, go for a longer electric longboard.
There are many deck shapes in skateboards and longboards, but we think that there is no need to cover them all. Since we are talking about the comfort of travel, either a concave or a flat deck is going to be the best.
It is generally considered that concave decks allow for more control over the longboard since they offer more support for the foot. Flat decks with their neutral profile also deliver good foot support, but definitely not as much as concave decks do. Plus, concave decks keep you a little closer to the ground, which may increase your overall stability.
By the way, if you care about stability, then pay attention to the height of the deck from the ground as well. The lower the deck is, the more stable the longboard is going to be. Wheel size also affects this – larger wheels make the deck stand higher and less stable, and vice versa.
Wheel size & roughness
Wheels are very important in any kind of skateboard and longboard. However, in longboards, things are completely different since they are designed more for cruising rather than for tricking.
As a rule of thumb, if you care about the comfort of riding, go for a longboard with bigger and softer wheels. Big wheels won’t be affected as much by the unevenness of the road and debris like stones, while soft wheels will dampen the shock and will have more grip.
Wheel size is usually measured in millimeters, while softness is usually measured on a durometer A scale ranging from about 80a to over 100a. A softer wheel is going to have a lower durometer measurement, e.g. 80a is softer than 90a. There’s also a durometer B scale, but we won’t cover it since it is designed for use with hard wheels.
